One of the primary objectives of this partnership is to work alongside VRC Metals, a leading metal fabrication company, in developing a cutting-edge solution for cold spray 3D printing. Although not widely favored in the 3D printing community, cold spray technology boasts unparalleled productivity, affordability, and exceptional capabilities for repairing and augmenting structures.

With this groundbreaking technique, it becomes possible to create complex composite materials, such as a copper core with a steel form layered on top. This opens up exciting possibilities for advanced applications, like missile warheads.

Renowned researchers from Carnegie Mellon University, Alexander Myers and Guadalupe Quirarte, have taken a fresh approach to measuring the melt pool, a critical component in the black box of powder bed fusion. Instead of relying on traditional thermal cameras, Myers and Quirarte propose using color cameras, which offer faster frame rates and improved resolution. This breakthrough in measurement technology promises to provide invaluable insights into the intricate workings of powder bed fusion.

In another significant development, Paragon Medical has announced the inauguration of its state-of-the-art Additive Manufacturing facility. As a trusted partner of 3D Systems, Paragon Medical has invested a staggering $16 million in this cutting-edge facility, with plans to allocate an additional $19 million over the coming years.
