A groundbreaking collaboration has revolutionized the world of powder-based 3D printing. Solukon and Reichenbacher Hamuel GmbH have joined forces to optimize the entire process, resulting in efficiency and ease like never before.

Reichenbacher Hamuel specializes in hybrid LPBF metal 3D printers, while Solukon is the leading producer of depowdering equipment. The LPBF process generates a significant amount of loose powder that needs to be removed after printing. This is where Solukon’s depowdering equipment comes into play.

Traditionally, the removal of the loose powder was a manual task, done by vacuuming it out from the print job. The dusty printed parts were then processed in the Solukon device for final powder removal. While effective, this process required a lot of manual effort from operators.

However, the partnership between Solukon and Reichenbacher Hamuel has brought about a major simplification of this process. They have come up with an ingenious concept – rotating the entire build box upside down. This causes the loose powder to fall out, which is then recovered and handled in the same way as vacuumed powder. The result is a build box containing the metal parts, ready for final depowdering.

This innovative approach significantly reduces the manual effort required from operators, allowing them to handle far more 3D printers. This is particularly beneficial for rapidly expanding production facilities seeking increased productivity.

The only drawback is that this approach requires changes in the 3D printer itself, which has been implemented by Reichenbacher Hamuel, but not yet by other manufacturers. Consequently, organizations aiming to simplify operator labor might consider acquiring this equipment pair. The time saved could result in substantial cost savings over a longer period.

To further enhance this solution, it would be helpful to have a standard build box design or dimensions. This would enable post-processing equipment manufacturers to cater to a wider range of 3D printer models. Currently, other LPBF operators face more manual effort as there are no universally accepted standards in this area.

With the Solukon and Reichenbacher Hamuel partnership, the future of powder-based 3D printing looks brighter than ever. The collaboration has introduced a game-changing method that streamlines the entire process, paving the way for increased efficiency and productivity in the industry.
