One of the most notable advancements that Axtra3D brings to the table is their Intelli-Cartridge system. This system simplifies and automates the 3D printing process by actively managing resin within the printer. It dispenses material to the vat, collects return material, and offers various functionalities like agitation, heating, and filtering. The Intelli-Cartridge increases resin capacity, eliminates manual top filling, and reduces waste and mess by extracting excess resin and filtering it before returning it to the cartridge. Overall, it streamlines the printing process and contributes to the advancement of photopolymer technology.

Axtra3D also introduces their TruLayer Technology, which utilizes three sensors on the glass plate beneath the printer’s membrane. This technology eliminates unnecessary wait times between layers, doubling the speed compared to competitors while maintaining accuracy. It allows for rapid detachment of the print layer from the vat membrane, even for large and bulky cross-sections. Additionally, the technology features a durable non-degenerative vat membrane and has the capability to print with highly viscous resins.

All of these features come together in Axtra3D’s flagship Lumia X1 printer, manufactured in Italy. The company has also developed the budget-friendly Revox X1 printer, making their technology more accessible to a wider range of users.

The Axtra3D Revox is a new 3D printer on the market that aims to revolutionize the dental industry. While it may seem similar to the Lumia, there is one key difference – it does not have High Precision Stereolithography (HPS) technology. Instead, it relies solely on a Digital Light Processing (DLP) projector. However, the Revox can be upgraded to the Lumia in the future if needed.

According to Spoliansky, the CEO of Axtra3D, one of the key factors for success in the industry is having a strong application focus. In order to achieve this, Axtra3D is collaborating with some of the largest dental labs in the U.S. to optimize their printers for various dental applications. By increasing the speed of printing, dental labs can achieve a better return on investment. The Revox, being twice as fast as its biggest competitor, allows dental labs to print double the models within a day while still maintaining the same level of accuracy.

Axtra3D is also exploring other use cases such as connectors with low to medium volume and high complexity. They are striving to provide cost-effective alternatives, especially compared to Carbon’s subscription model, in order to offer a more flexible operational cost model. Additionally, Axtra3D has partnered with BASF and is a reseller of BASF resin. The company is using BASF’s 3280 material, which is 65% ceramic filled by volume, in order to achieve high surface quality for tooling. The Revox’s fast printing speed allows them to build molds in a vertical orientation, which is unusual but effective.

While Axtra3D has faced challenges entering the market during a difficult time for the additive manufacturing industry, they have already made significant progress. They have signed their first U.S. channel partner, Nota3D, who is also a 3D Systems reseller. The unique features offered by the Revox, such as high surface finish and fast printing speed, make it hard to ignore the potential success of Axtra3D in the market. As they continue to establish themselves, it is likely that competitors will develop their own versions of similar features, which will benefit the vat photopolymerization industry as a whole.
