Polymaker, a leading materials company in the 3D printing industry, has recently launched its first series of filaments designed specifically for the high-speed FDM 3D printer market. The development of the PolySonic filaments was driven by three key criteria: extrusion, forming, and mechanical properties. Polymaker conducted extensive research and testing to ensure that the materials met these criteria and delivered the best possible results.

In terms of extrusion, PolySonic was found to outperform regular PLA filaments, with a 40% boost in volumetric flow rate. This means that under-extrusion concerns at high printing speeds are alleviated, resulting in more consistent and accurate prints.

Forming mechanics were also a key consideration in the development of PolySonic. The material’s enhanced rheology allows it to transform from a fluid to a solid state with minimal shrinkage. This ensures that sharp detailing, accurate corners, and efficient handling of overhangs are maintained, even at high flow rates.

Testing revealed that PolySonic exhibits minimal degradation in mechanical strength at high printing speeds, with only a 6% drop compared to a 24% drop for standard PLA.
