“When Caracol first started, we primarily provided printing services with a focus on large format extrusion,” Nespolo explained. “Over time, we developed a high-quality large format printer, which led clients to express interest in accessing our technology. As the technology matured, transitioning into an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) made sense for us. We wanted to understand our clients’ needs and help them manufacture what was previously unattainable.”

This shift in focus allowed Caracol to explore new markets and uncover a world of potential users. Nespolo cited the maritime sector as an example. Initially unexplored, it quickly became a key market for the company. By starting with specific applications and refining their system for use in production, Caracol was able to thrive in various industries.

In addition to the transportation sectors such as aerospace, rail, automotive, and maritime, Caracol has also ventured into other areas of heavy industry, including decarbonization and renewable energy. Given the significance of automation in large format manufacturing for supporting lower carbon economies, this expansion aligns perfectly with Caracol’s goals. Moreover, pellet extrusion AM offers unique opportunities for recycling, further reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainability.

Nespolo highlighted Caracol’s involvement in innovative projects related to green energy, such as finding ways to recycle fiberglass from used wind turbines. Additionally, being in close proximity to clients who already have Caracol’s systems in their facilities fosters stronger relationships and opens up opportunities for growth.
