At the Singapore Design Week, a groundbreaking 3D printed pavilion called Altostrata was unveiled. This innovative structure, made from compostable sugar-based PLA, is a shining example of Fab.Pub’s circular design principles, which include reducing, repurposing, reusing, and recycling. The pavilion showcases the remarkable potential for waste minimization and sustainable resource utilization.

One of the standout features of Altostrata is its flexible and reconfigurable panels, which not only make transportation easy but also allow for diverse functionalities. Developed by Mamou-Mani Architects, this pavilion embodies Fab.Pub’s vision of establishing mobile printing factories worldwide. By enabling industry professionals to access advanced 3D printing machines that support local, renewable, and recyclable materials, the platform aims to substantially reduce waste and carbon emissions.

The brains behind Fab.Pub, Arthur Mamou-Mani, has an ambitious goal in mind. He envisions a decentralized model of localized fabrication driven by mobile 3D printing farms. These farms would utilize sustainable materials and technologies to minimize the environmental impact. It’s no surprise that Singapore, a city known for its emphasis on design and technology, was chosen as the launch location for this groundbreaking initiative.

Altostrata is not simply a stationary exhibit, but rather a traveling showcase of sustainable innovation. Its next destination is Dubai Design Week in November, followed by Europe in 2024. Alongside the pavilion, a series of talks will be held, delving into topics such as the role of artificial intelligence in interior design and the integration of renewable materials in mainstream applications.

Through their traveling exhibit, Altostrata and Fab.Pub are setting a new standard for sustainable, localized manufacturing. By centering their design principles on circularity and leveraging mobile fabrication units, they have the potential to drive long-term change in industry practices.
