Seurat’s Revolutionary 3D Printing Technology Secures $99M in Series C Funding

Seurat, a pioneering company in the field of 3D printing, has recently announced the successful completion of a $99 million Series C funding round. This significant funding will allow Seurat to further develop and commercialize its specialized 3D printing technology for the production of large-scale metal parts.

The prevailing technology in metal 3D printing, laser powder bed fusion (LPBF), is known for its slow production rate and is mainly suitable for expensive, low-volume components. Seurat aims to challenge this limitation and revolutionize the manufacturing industry by introducing its innovative Area Printing technology.

Unlike traditional 3D printers, Seurat’s Area Printing technology utilizes custom-built microchips to transform a single laser beam into an astounding 2 million individual points of light. This breakthrough allows for faster and more efficient 3D printing of metal parts, making it a game-changer in the industry.

Instead of selling 3D printers, Seurat plans to establish factories equipped with its unique Area Printing technology. This approach aligns with Seurat’s mission to create a green manufacturing industry and provide customers with clean manufacturing options that can compete with traditional manufacturing in terms of volume, quality, and price points.

With the recent infusion of $99 million in capital, Seurat’s total funding now stands at an impressive $178 million. The Series C round attracted a diverse group of backers, including NVIDIA’s venture capital arm and Capricorn’s Technology Impact Fund. Existing investors such as True Ventures, SIP Global Partners, Porsche Automobil Holding SE, Denso Global, General Motors Ventures, Maniv Mobility LP, and Xerox Ventures also contributed additional funds. Furthermore, new investments from Honda Motor and Cubit Capital added to Seurat’s impressive roster of supporters.

Securing support from automotive giants like Honda and Porsche, as well as leading car parts supplier Denso, is a significant victory for Seurat. Historically, cost has been a stumbling block in the automotive industry’s adoption of 3D printing. However, Seurat’s success in attracting these key players could indicate a shift in the industry and pave the way for high-volume orders that are crucial for operating Seurat’s factories at full capacity.

In addition to the automotive industry, Seurat’s focus on decarbonization and U.S.-based production could attract further investment from local governments interested in fostering future-forward factories. This approach aligns with the successful strategies of other companies like VulcanForms and Divergent, which prioritize local, sustainable, and efficient manufacturing.

Seurat’s unique approach, combined with its focus on decarbonization and reshoring, seems to be the key to unlocking substantial investment. The company’s potential to disrupt and decarbonize the traditional metal parts manufacturing industry has garnered high praise, with investors expressing confidence in the team’s technical expertise and business scalability.

Although Seurat currently claims to have the capacity to produce 25 tons of metal parts annually, the challenge now lies in converting this capacity into high-quality, in-spec components. Traditional manufacturing techniques already have an established presence in the industry, making this task formidable. Nonetheless, Seurat’s ambitious project has successfully secured funding during a challenging period, highlighting the team’s dedication and skill.

Seurat’s CEO, James DeMuth, will be participating in the upcoming Additive Manufacturing Strategies summit hosted by and Additive Manufacturing Research. This event will take place from February 6-8, 2024, and attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about Seurat’s groundbreaking technology and its impact on the manufacturing industry.

Stay informed about the latest news and developments in the 3D printing industry by following Seurat’s journey and keeping up with the exciting advancements in this rapidly evolving field.

Today, I wanted to write this blog post in a slightly different way, just to keep things interesting. So, instead of presenting you with the usual information and offers from third-party vendors, I thought why not share the same story and logic in a slightly unconventional manner. Buckle up, because we’re about to embark on a unique blog post journey!

Once upon a time, in the magical realm of the internet, there existed a land filled with third-party vendors. These vendors were like mystical creatures, each offering their own set of products and services. People from all over the world would flock to this land, seeking the best deals and exclusive offers.

Now, let’s meet our protagonist, Sarah. Sarah was an avid online shopper, always on the lookout for the best savings and high-quality products. One day, she stumbled upon this enchanted blog, promising to reveal the secret to finding hidden gems among the third-party vendors.

Curiosity piqued, Sarah clicked on the blog post and found herself transported to a realm of captivating storytelling and unique insights. Instead of the typical list of offers and information, she found herself immersed in a narrative full of adventure and excitement.

The wise narrator explained that third-party vendors were like puzzle pieces waiting to be discovered. Each puzzle piece represented a unique offering, and the challenge was to find the right combination that would unlock a world of incredible value.

Sarah was intrigued and embarked on a quest to solve this puzzling mystery. As she delved deeper into the world of third-party vendors, she realized that the key to finding hidden treasures lay in understanding each vendor’s story and logic.

For example, Sarah stumbled upon a vendor who offered handmade jewelry. The vendor’s story was one of passion and dedication to creating exquisite pieces. The logic behind their pricing was based on fair trade practices, ensuring that both the artisan and the customer received a fair deal.

Next, she encountered a vendor specializing in eco-friendly household products. Their story revolved around the importance of sustainability and reducing carbon footprints. The logic behind their pricing was that investing in environmentally-friendly options would have long-term benefits for both the planet and the wallet.

As Sarah continued her exploration, she met vendors with stories ranging from supporting local communities to championing ethical practices. Each vendor had their own unique logic behind the products they offered, and it was these stories and logics that set them apart from the rest.

In the end, Sarah realized that the enchanting blog post had led her to a profound understanding. It was not just about the information or offers from third-party vendors, but the stories behind them that truly mattered. By choosing vendors whose stories and logics aligned with her values, she was not only getting great products but also supporting causes she believed in.

And so, dear readers, the moral of this unconventional blog post is that sometimes a different narrative approach can bring new perspective and excitement. The world of third-party vendors is not just about facts and offers, but about the stories and logics that make them unique. By embracing this perspective, we can find not only incredible deals but also a sense of connection and purpose in our shopping journey.
