BigRep Expands into High-Temperature 3D Printing with Strategic HAGE3D Acquisition

In autumn 2023, the leader in large-format 3D printing, BigRep, announced its acquisition of HAGE3D, an Austrian company known for its extensive large-platform, fused filament fabrication (FFF) systems. This move enabled BigRep to broaden its spectrum from low-to-high-temperature solutions across the globe, bolstering its market reach. Subsequently, it declared a SPAC deal to offer its stocks on the German market, expected to finalize by the first quarter of 2024 with a valuation of approximately 157 million euros.

Following the acquisition, BigRep introduced two advanced high-temperature 3D printers— the ALTRA 280 and the IPSO 105. These machines, initially named PRECISE and MEX in Europe, are now launched in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. They are tailored for industrial uses in critical fields like automotive, aerospace, and defense, featuring full automation.

The ALTRA 280 and IPSO 105 are designed with open material systems capable of processing everything from standard to high-performance polymers. These printers are engineered for speed, precision, and reliability, geared towards pushing boundarites into new application domains thanks to their high-temperature capabilities.

BigRep ALTRA 280

The large-scale ALTRA 280 features a build chamber measuring 500 x 700 x 800 mm with a volume of 280 liters, capable of reaching temperatures up to 180°C. This makes it suitable for printing high-performance materials such as ULTEM 9085, TPU 98A, and PEEK (AM200). Designed for elevated productivity, the printer is equipped with dual DSX extruders that can each heat up to 450°C, accompanied by two respective backup extruders, ensuring long-term reliability. For ease of use, it incorporates a fully automated calibration and pre-heating procedure that starts at the push of a button. These capabilities facilitate the consistent production of complex prototypes, functional production parts, and ready-to-use items.

BigRep IPSO 105

The smaller yet robust IPSO 105 offers a substantial build volume of 105 liters in a 400 x 600 x 440mm chamber. BigRep describes it as a versatile industrial tool with exceptional temperature management, balancing cost and performance efficiently for a high-temperature device. Its enclosed heating chamber can achieve temperatures up to 100°C while the bed heats to 80°C. This printer excels in producing tools from high-performance materials such as PEKK, PC FR, and PEKK-CF.

Similar to the ALTRA 280, the IPSO 105 features automated setup processes, smart filament sensors, and dual DSX extruders capable of handling up to 450°C. It seamlessly shifts to a secondary extruder upon detecting any issues, ensuring continuous and versatile printing capabilities in multi-material or multi-color configurations.
