In a major step towards advancing the Thai construction sector to international standards, SCG-CPAC, a prominent company in cement and construction materials, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Samsung. This agreement, which was formalized on August 21, 2024, at the SCG Headquarters in Bangkok, aims to boost 3D printing technologies and the global commercialization of unique cementitious materials.

A Shared Vision for Sustainable Construction

The MoU was endorsed by Mr. Thammasak Sethaudom, President & CEO of SCG, and Mr. Surachai Nimlaor, President of SCG Cement and Green Solution Business, together with Mr. Hong Namkoong, President and CEO of Samsung E&A Co., Ltd., and Mr. Dong Hyun Kim, Executive Vice President Engineering Technology Division of Samsung E&A Co., Ltd. The collaboration underscores a mutual commitment of both corporations to propel the future of sustainable construction leveraging innovation and cutting-edge technology.

Progress in 3D Printing and Material Science

The partnership emphasizes enhancing 3D printing technology in construction, which aims to boost production efficiency, diminish errors, and cut down on waste. The automation through 3D printing confronts the challenge of skilled labor shortages, compresses project timelines, and slashes costs when compared to conventional construction techniques. The MoU also covers combined research in material science, along with machinery and equipment, plus an exchange of knowledge concerning 3D printing in construction and specialized cement-based materials.

In this alliance, Samsung E&A is set to incorporate 350 tons of its signature 3D printing mortar, noted for its capacity to support complex architectural forms with high strength, for a building project in Saudi Arabia. CPAC will contribute by offering technological and engineering consultation on 3D printing, as well as support in evaluating the project, to maintain top-notch architectural standards and aesthetics.
